2. Action: Funding for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Summer School Program

As part of the broader recovery agenda to help children catch up with their missed face-to-face learning and development, and provide an opportunity to support their mental health and well-being, we are providing 200 million pounds sterling to allow as many secondary schools as possible to offer in-person summer schools this year.

Schools are free to identify the pupils who would benefit the most from the summer school. We recommend focusing on incoming grade 7 students, giving them the opportunity to build community with their new classmates and teachers and to familiarize themselves with their new school environment.

Funding is calculated based on 50% of the Grade 7 cohort of a school being offered a place in a two-week program, or 100% of the cohort being offered a one-week program and is equivalent to £ 597 per two-week place (£ 1,791 for pupils in schools or special units and alternative services).

Eligible secondary schools must access the registration form to register their intention to host a summer school by 11:59 p.m. on May 7, 2021.

We will ask schools to confirm their plans in June. In September, schools will be asked to confirm that the summer school has taken place and to provide information on the students who attended. Funding will then be provided.

3. Information: forecast return on the academies’ budget

We have released the Estimates Return Excel Workbook to help Academic Trusts prepare for their return for this year.

The workbook reflects back inline questions and validations. It includes the combined form BFRO and BFR3Y as well as the restored 3-year forecasts.

4. Reminder: a new document exchange service is now online

The ESFA information exchange will no longer be accessible after Friday 30 April.

A new document exchange service is now operational.

We automatically gave ESFA Information Exchange users access to the new service.

We have also uploaded all the documents for the 2021 to 2022 academic year there.

We are examining whether it would be useful for our users to transfer more historical documents to the new document exchange service.

Documents not downloaded and saved before 11:59 p.m. on Friday April 30, 2021 will no longer be accessible from ESFA Information Exchange.

5. Reminder: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Free School Meal Supplement for Schools and Colleges Online Form is online

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Free School Meal Supplement online form went online on April 7, 2021.

You can claim the eligible costs related to free school meals and additional free meal costs during the period from January 4 until the start of the Easter holiday (if applicable).

The deadline to submit your claim is May 4, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.

6. Information: publication of the allocations of the teachers ‘salary allowance (TPG) and the employer contribution subsidy for teachers’ pensions (TPECG) and the conditions for granting them

Schools and academies maintained with pupils over 16 years of age and early childhood institutions currently receive allowances for the Teachers Salary Premium (TPG) and the Employers ‘Contribution Grant for the Teachers’ Pension (TPECG) of the ESFA. We continue to provide these grants to these schools as separate grants outside of the National Funding Formula (NFF) from 2021 to 2022. We have now released the allocations for the TPG and TPECG grants for the period April to August. 2021.

TPG and TPECG funding related to students from the reception of year groups until grade 11 will be included in the NFF endowments from April 2021 for maintained schools and from September 2021 for academies.

We have published TPG allocations and TPECG allocations from April to August 2021 for institutions that receive them as separate grants. We have also published guides on the data sources used in allocations for each of these grants.

The academies will also receive separate TPG and TPECG grants for the period from April 2021 to August 2021. These allocations have also been published.

7. Information: Return of Clinically Extremely Vulnerable Personnel (CEV) to the workplace

We know that after a period of protection, the transition to the workplace can make some staff anxious.

Protection councils were suspended nationally from March 31. Further information and ongoing advice for clinically extremely vulnerable people is available at GOV.UK.

Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) staff in education and child care facilities are advised that if it is possible for them to fulfill their role at home, they should continue to work remotely. If they cannot work from home, they should go back to their place of work.

When staff are feeling anxious, we encourage leaders to discuss any individual concerns and reassure staff about the control system in place. The system of controls in place in educational and childcare institutions, when implemented in accordance with the environmental risk assessment, creates an inherently safer environment where the risk of transmission is significantly reduced .
