Weekly Harness Update: Splendid Feature Prices, H2W List

The weekly TwinSpires Harness blog update covers our successes and failures from selected features and H2W (list of horses to watch). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the results of the next update.

In the Mohawk feature film, Ontario Girls Series Stage 2, just daisy ($2.10, $2.40) finished in a dead head for second; bottom of the ninth (7-1) was fifth.

A 17-1 winner ruined our feature in Hawthorne as we were third with Perseus Seelster ($4.80). feel like a ten (7-2) finished fifth.

Saturday March 5

An excellent cold exacta worth $23.40 has surfaced in Pocono with our winner, Cyrus Peak ($9.00, $4.00, $3.20), and a second per Father Sarducci ($3.20, $2.80).

Meanwhile, at the Meadowlands, the favorite won our feature as we challenged each other with big odds. Still, we completed the exact $54.60 with Ocean Ridge N ($10.80, $720).

H2W results list prices across the board. The exactas listed include an H2W horse finishing second to a race favorite or whether the top two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses are listed – a cold exacta; most prizes are for $2 exactas) . The “OK” rating determines that the prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a seat price or all prices are the same).

Please note that some results reflect horse racing after blog posts (they appear the following week).

This week there were 44 H2W horsepower (16% win-hit rate and 41% ATB [across-the-board] to hit). Horses with asterisks in front of their names were @FrankCotolo tweets. Follow late picks.

The 2022 season at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino begins March 25. The 160-day encounter runs through Dec. 10 with an overnight post time of 6:30 p.m. ET. The races take place on Friday and Saturday during the opening week; Thursday, Friday and Saturday the second week; and Wednesday to Saturday before adding Tuesdays on June 7. Season at Harrah’s Hoosier features the $300,000 Dan Patch Stakes on August 12.

Hoosier’s opening night features the return of the Claim Challenge (CC), a championship-style series. The Claiming Challenge will offer purses of more than $200,000 in total for horses ranging from $5,000 to $30,000, and will feature an elimination and final for each division. The CC is open to all contending horses, regardless of where they foaled or raced.

It is rare for all the horses in a field to appear in a photo of the finish line, but on February 28 in the fifth at Yonkers Raceway, the camera captured the eight in a photo to win. Four horses stretched the track to the wire, with Cyclone Banner winning the pace conditioned by a nose over Nvestment Bluechip with Kerford Road One third by a head, Brackley Beach fourth, a half length back. A length behind was a second line of four horses, each separated by only a quarter of a length.
